Mason General Hospital was designated one of the “Most Wired” hospitals in 2011 by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. According to the magazine, “Most Wired” institutions “show higher outcomes in patient satisfaction, risk-adjusted mortality rates, and other critical quality measures” (Mason General Hospital and Family of Clinics, 2012).
Nurses have always been at the vanguard of quality improvement efforts, thanks to advances in information technology. This week you look at the IOM report “To Err Is Human” and how health IT has helped improve patient safety and quality.
“To Err Is Human” in Nursing Practice
An important report published in 1999 called “To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System” outlined steps to increase patient safety. Since its publication, “To Err Is Human” has influenced substantial improvements in nursing practice in the US.
