Research Findings Relative to the Success in Preventing Recidivism among Offenders
According to the findings of this research study, recidivism can be prevented through several strategies. For example, child-rearing and marriage significantly decreased the chances of recidivism (Hlavka Wheelock & Jones, 2015). Family is viewed to be a crucial motivator that anchors continued transformation. Another strategy would be to use community service work where the study established that helping others through various activities such as community service often provided purpose. The study also established that individuals who avoid recidivism had undergone a transformation that allowed them to shift concern from themselves towards greater concerns about the well-being of the family, friends, and society in general (Hlavka Wheelock & Jones, 2015).
The Credibility of the Offender’s Accounts
I find the accounts given on the offender’s reentry success quite credible. Through these accounts, offenders were able to make sense of their lived experiences and also share that understanding, which I found quite informative, particularly on this subject. These accounts’ credibility exists because most of them gave actual information verifiable by their community and close relations.
Reading this article has provided growth opportunities for understanding the reentry process because it has effectively used offenders’ accounts to explain the process. By understanding what these offenders have to endure when trying to reintegrate back to society, the article has changed my perspective on the issue.
Among the major issues facing jails in the modern era is that due to low income, there is an overreliance on the Defenders’ system. While most inmates require legal assistance, they are too poor to afford it. Moreover, bail is also another serious issue affecting jails because some inmates cannot afford it, making it challenging for them to assist their attorneys in preparation for defense or proving their innocence. A solution to this problem would be for the criminal justice system to assist offenders with legal assistance, especially those who desperately require help. Although it might be quite challenging under the current budgetary constraints, it is necessary because it will help decongest the jails, which leads to reduced service costs.
