Assignment Questions
Evaluate eBay Inc.’s entry into China’s C2C market and explain why eBay withdrew from
the market by using both the IBV and RBV.
You need to address the following questions to evaluate its entry strategy and withdrawal.
1. How attractive was the C2C market in China when eBay entered in 2002? What location
advantages (country-specific advantages) did the Chinese market have then? In order to
provide evidence-supporting answers, you could consider the tools covered in this course
or other business courses.
2. What ownership advantages (firm-specific advantages) did eBay China have in 2002
(both its headquarters (eBay Inc.) and its acquired subsidiary (EachNet))? Should these
ownership advantages grant the eBay China a sustained competitive advantage in China?
Why? In order to provide evidence-supporting answers, you could consider the tools
covered in this course or other business courses.

fonts, 2.5 cm margins. Exhibits (tables or graphs, NOT pure texts) to support your analysis

You should only base your analysis on the evidence provided in the case. You are NOT
expected to structure your analysis question by question.
