Who Am I in the Conversation About Race in America
I have a writing assignment on the following topic:âWho Am I in the Conversation About Race in America?âThis assignment asks you to go down your personal Memory Lane to harvest your earliest memories ofthinking and/or knowing about Race. You will describe your community, specifics about itsethnic/cultural/income/political makeup, your introduction to the notion of difference, etc. Go back tothe beginning and come forward, keeping note of events and people in your environment who shared inthose formative moments – or incited them. Next you will examine the local news publications and broadcasts in terms of their coverage of criticalnational events where Race was at the center of the news and that occurred during your life back home. Finally, you will conclude with a description of how you became the participant you are in the nationalconversation about race as you analyze how your community prepared you for participation.Defining the paper:I am originally from Pakistan so I need reflection of racism through that lens as well as how after movinghere to the united states in 2010 how do I perceive racism now. What are the similarities betweendifferent racial patterns in the two countries? It is just one of the example that I have personal experience of: âAs I was growing up (in the capital city ofIslamabad, Pakistan) it was quite evident that people were very fond of associating with a fair skin.Generally, Pakistanis have a fairer skin and are proud of it. My grandfather (mothers father) was himselfa dark skinned person, but I distinctly remember that he always used to pry upon the fact that mydaughter-in-laws and my son-in-laws should all be faired skinned. It was something that we as Pakistanihave a complex upon. That if we are not âwhiteâ enough we will not be treated adequately. My motherand her sibling are faired skinned thanks to grandmother who had a very fair skin. But where does thislead us on the issue of racism. Like Gospel and Torah, Quran teaches us as well to completely shunracism and it is a grave sin Islam to be racist, yet here we are in our own country being disloyal to theHighest Authority. Does this have to do with our association with the British Rule who ridiculed theentire subcontinent. Does being fair give us a higher status or attribute in the society. Also discuss racism in different cast systems as well as religion has evolved. How the fascist and brainwashed so called Islamic Preachers âMullahsâ have used religion to outcast other religions in Pakistan.Homework help – Discuss how has the west influenced racism in Pakistan. Now coming to discussing race in USA, we need to make a comparison of racism between Pakistan andUS. Need to discuss Black Lives Matter, Freddie Gray, Michael Brown and other such issues and compareit with how it relates to racism in Pakistan. Newspaper sources: For newspaper sources I need sources from two newspapers from Pakistan. Theseare as follows:Dawn news: https://monkessays.com/write-my-essay/dawn.com/The News: https://monkessays.com/write-my-essay/thenews.com.pk/For U.S I need sources from the Baltimore Sun newspaper (https://monkessays.com/write-my-essay/baltimoresun.com/)I need sources from only these three newspapers. These are the three newspapers that I have beenreading in the two countries. You can use sources from the books of course. Using Michelle Alexanderâs Jim Crow would be completelyappropriate. You can always introduce the idea of how racism is institutionalized in the US and compareit to Pakistan how it relates. The newspaper sources are to be used to cite examples of racism in the twocountries.
