Hello Dr. Smith and Class,
It is imperative that all social workers respect different clients and there cultures. Most individuals who speak different languages have different cultures and backgrounds they also have different rituals. They are various cultures yet different but alike. “The social worker’s responsibility is to help vulnerable individuals within the community overcome obstacles of economic or social poverty.”(Why Cultural Competence in Social Work is Vital Skill). Cultural biases of a social worker can slower the process by not being able to meet the needs of the individuals in society. These biases shown on the social worker will also limit there communication effort with a client to have effective communication to assist them in creating a solution to there problem. It is important for the social worker to know there own biases and cultural identity and not to giver personal opinions or ideology on others they may encounter. An example of this would be some culturing strategies that the social worker may implement or use were not interrupting the client while they show emotion, listening with your undivided attention to the individual and being aware one one’s own personal cultural and values and beliefs.
Best Regards,
Clineesha
