As I think about some monumental, life-changing obstacles, this essay prompt runs into my head. The truth of the matter is that it has been treating me well. I have never found a traumatizing college easy-worthy event that changed my perspective about life and career. When I got to the scale, as I have been doing each morning, I realized that I needed to overcome the biggest obstacle was my weight. The issue of weight has been there for several years and what made it become a difficult issue is the fact that I was expecting it to be.
I developed self-consciousness of being slightly bigger than my friends, though the actual turning point came when I was in grade eight. After visiting different doctors for some months, one doctor confirmed that I was suffering from polycystic Ovary Syndrome. I was also insulin resistant. It took a longer duration for me to hook up with a proficient gynecologist who understood my health condition, in addition to giving me a proper and health treatment plan. Though my physicians did their best to conform to me, this was a huge shock to me. It became clear to me that I needed to do my best to lose weight to prevent long-term effects. I never thought that this condition would consume me in the future.
My condition forced me to be always ‘on a diet.’ Without going through the nutrition facts label, I could not enjoy the food. Also, I continually struggled since my main treatment was weight loss. The fact that slow metabolism and insulin resistance made it difficult for me to lose weight. It is because of this that I started developing an obsessive and unhealthy relationship with my weight. Though I overcame it and became a much healthier individual, I did not cross the finishing line. It is something that I believe I would keep on fighting for a lifetime.
Nevertheless, this issue came with benefits because it has contributed to what I am today. It has impacted my personality and made me stronger in dealing with issues calmly. I have learned essential skills like time management, hard work, and dedication by incorporating regular exercise and healthy eating. Though there are moments I was tempted to quit because I did not see results, I persevered and stayed focus on the end goal.
It has also changed my lifestyle. At first, I considered it a disadvantage that made me constantly watch what I was eating and workout, unlike my friends, but it made it possible for me to become a much healthier and more active person. I am now considering to start going to the gym. My stress’ object has become the place where I release most of it.
It is the outcome of this struggle, which was longer because of various activities, which triggered me to consider pursuing medicine. I researched how my body works and what is needed for it to be healthier. Through this struggle, I understood the significance of being a competent doctor since I booked an appointment with those who were not proficient.
