Practice at a higher level Because of their training, education, and experience in the nursing profession, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) have a greater scope of practice, a greater number of positions, and greater professional responsibility. With more states permitting advanced practice registered nurses to practice with more breadth and power, APRNs are assuming leadership roles and playing essential roles in the delivery of healthcare services in a rapidly changing health care environment. Also important is for them to comprehend the function of professional nursing organizations as members in their new roles as leaders and advanced care providers (Dyess et al., 2017). Nurses’ scope of practice and obligations in existing and future specialized areas are defined by the roles and responsibilities of professional organizations. The objective of this paper is to investigate my existing scope of practice for my speciality and to describe efforts to broaden the scope and role of advanced nurses in order to have a beneficial impact on the health-care delivery system.
The scope of one’s future responsibilities as an Advanced Registered Nurse
A result of the current changes in legislative frameworks at the state and federal levels, nurses are continuing to assume more leadership and management duties across a range of healthcare settings. As the nurse’s job evolves from that of a physician’s assistant to that of an integral part of the life-saving team, the function of nurse leader takes on greater significance. Despite the wide range of responsibilities of a nurse leader, the most important of these is to guide nurses in order to guarantee that they adhere to high standards of quality care and patient safety. When it came to modernizing the nursing profession and providing high-quality, patient-centered care to patients in a variety of practice settings, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) stressed the necessity of nurses leading change and advancing health as vital ways of achieving these goals (Ducharme et al., 2017). The key message of the IOM research is that nurses should be full partners with physicians and other health professionals in the redesign of healthcare in the country, according to the report. The role I see for myself as an advanced registered nurse in clinical practice is to advocate for more effective care and greater collaboration between nurse practitioners, physicians, and other health-care providers in the future.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 500,000 registered nurses are expected to retire, resulting in a demand for approximately 1.1 million new nurses to meet the new demand and replace retirees, the majority of whom will be in managerial and leadership positions, to replace them (Dyess et al., 2017). According to the inference, the scope of a nurse leader’s work would have enlarged obligations and the requirement to provide supervisory services to employees in a hospital or clinical context. Nurse leaders are responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of care, and they must be thoroughly versed with the safety standards and regulations of the medical profession as well as the practices of their respective healthcare organizations. A nurse leader’s primary responsibility is to manage members of the nursing team in order to guarantee that all patients receive safe treatment.
