Chapter III Proposal essay
Here are comments just on Chapter III. You have a lot of work to do to ensure the chapter meets the requirements as outlined in the Dissertation Handbook. Please access the latest version of the Handbook from the Research Resource Center (you’ll find a link in the online classroom), and follow the guidelines in Appendix B that detail what should be in each chapter of the dissertation. Add the missing parts and incorporate the feedback I have provided.
Then, make sure you have the appropriate appendices attached after the References list. You must include as appendices all materials you will use in your study, like the participant solicitation notice or ad, the organizational permission form for the organization or agency from which you hope to solicit participants, the informed consent, etc.
For your proposal, you should have ONE References list. I noticed that you have a separate list after Chapter II. You need to combine the lists into a single list that comes after Chapter III and before the appendices.

Chapter III: INTRODUCTION
This chapter focuses on the research method and design used in this study. Qualitative research focuses on information a research query as a humanistic or unwavering approach. Qualitative research is used to apprehend humans’ ideals, experiences, attitudes, conduct, and interactions. It generates non-numerical statistics. The integration of qualitative studies into intervention studies is a research strategy that is gaining improved attention throughout disciplines. Gibson et al. Methodology
The qualitative methodology that will be used in this study is interviews. Conducting individual interviews will help to protect the participants’ privacy and allows them to work on his or her timeframe or schedule.
The term observational studies is used to consult several unexpected forms of non- experimental exploration wherein behavior is thoroughly found and noted. The aim of observational studies is to explain a flexible or set of variables. More normally, the intention is to gain a picture of specific activities of a man or woman, group, or setting. Observational studies are not the best form of data collection for workplace bullying. When employees are being observed, they tend to be on their best behavior and this form of study will not present reliable data to use in this research. Another downside to using observational study is that the
information collected can be both qualitative and quantitative. That fact that nothing can be manipulated or controlled eliminates the process from casual conclusions.
Documentary/textual research is a more expensive and extensive type of research. Documentary research is the process of using data that has been previously documented from? participates to form an analysis of occurrences. Use the of documentary study is to supplement material already found to support the study. Researchers that previously used this form of
research have found it to be more detailed and time consuming that added more time to formulated information to make it fit into data discovered by the investigator.
Why have you discussed observational and documentary types of qualitative studies? You have proposed case study research. How does that relate to these categories? I see nothing conclusive from this section of the chapter. If you are attempting to explain approaches you considered but did not choose to use, that’s different and you should introduce these research approaches that way.
Research Questions
Specific research questions to ask participants consist of:
1. Is there an impact of workplace bullying in the fast-food industry on the absenteeism of casual fast-food workers?
2. Does workplace bullying make an employee performance, attitude, and health worse on job?
These research questions are not the same as the questions proposed in Chapter I.
Role of Researcher
In dissertations, you should NOT refer to yourself using personal pronouns like I or me or my. Use informal third person and, when necessary and sparingly, refer to yourself as “the researcher” or “this researcher.”
The researcher of this study will serve as the instrument of data collection. I will combine a list of questions for the participants to answer, I will listen to the participants, think about each of their responses then decide if further questions need to be asked of them. My role is to gather data and build a picture of schemes and philosophies from each source. Data will be collected using individual semi-structured interviews, presenting each participant with a list of questions to answer in a specific timeframe. Each participant will submit the answers to their questions via email where I will collect and assess each to create an image of the issues that is currently being studied. During this process, the questions may or may not change depending on the direction the study can take. You can ask follow-up questions and you can ask questions out of order, but you should follow a study protocol that lists all the questions you will ask or each and every participant. After all data are collected the
researcher will create a picture of the incidents as through the participants’ viewpoints and not use sound judgment or bias.
Study Participants
You need to start this section with a discussion of the study population, the larger population from which you will identify your sample, your study participants. As a start, re-read Heitner and Sherman’s, Dissertation Field Guide, for information.
The researcher will seek 15 to 20 participants who will be asked to participate in semi-structured interviews. answer a list of open-ended questions to get a better understanding of their stance on workplace bullying in the fast-food industry. Participants will be selected through the LinkedIn site, the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) organization and speaking with some managers/leaders in the industry I am familiar with. Each resource will be able to provide a list of former managers or leaders in the fast-food industry with experience or knowledge of workplace bullying in the facility in which they worked. The selection process will be narrowed down to just fast-food industry participants since that is the basis for this study. I will try to have at least three different companies to participant to be able to compare the processes used in recognizing, eliminating or prevent bullying in his or her organization. Each business should have policies in place to aid in
these incidents, so this will give me a better idea of those policies and how they are implemented in the companies. Rewrite for clarity. This is not congruent with Chapter I. Eliminate references to yourself in the first person.
What are the qualifications for someone to be considered as a participant in this study? I don’t see any information other than their being a manager or supervisor in a fast food restaurant. Are you looking for a certain amount of experience, like at least 3 years in this kind of position? Think about what you need from your participants and describe it in this section.
Each potential participant will be contacted via phone call if anyone . In the process of contacting each member, I will explain the purpose of the study and how they
were selected for the project. We will briefly discuss the purpose, not giving away too much of the study and see if they are interested in contributing. Once confirmed, contact information will be exchanged for further questions if any and I will explain the timeframe for completion, ask what is needing from me for them to participant in this process and agree on how I can accommodate his or her request. You have not explained how you will identify potential participants or how you will contact them. You have not identified the criteria for inclusion of participants. The number of participants you have indicated in this chapter is different than the number of participants identified in Chapter I.
Using an interview process to collect data is the best way for the selected individuals to share his or her experiences in this study. This process will be conducted by supplying the
individuals with a survey list? of questions that will apply to the research to add value to information that has been gathered already. Survey research is defined as “the collection of information from a sample of individuals through their responses to questions” (Check & Schutt, 2012 you need a page reference for a direct quote. Better yet, eliminate the direct quote). Survey research offers a variety of ways for the researcher to enlist participants, accumulate data, and utilize an array of instrumentations. You keep switching between doing survey research and interview research. Which is it? Interviews will yield much more information because you can probe for clarification. Survey research, particularly qualitative survey research, yields static information.

The information I am seeking from the participants is their knowledge of any incidents of bullying in the workplace, how they handled the complaints brought to their attention, steps taken to prevent or eliminate the behaviors, action plan made that will provide training, and disciplinary actions taken. Interviews provide researchers with rich and detailed qualitative data for understanding participants’ experiences, how they describe those experiences, and the meaning they make of those experiences (Rubin & Rubin, 2012). Selecting the interview process for my study is the best route to take and will protect each participants confidentiality. How will this protect confidentiality?? Unclear. Distributing interview questions in advance may result in “canned” answers. You should consider simply creating an interview protocol and reading each question when you are interviewing the participants. Don’t distribute questions in advance.
Qualitative scholars can support the consistency of their interview protocols as tools by filtering them through the IPR context. “By enhancing the reliability of interview protocols, researchers can increase the quality of data they obtain from research interviews and furthermore, the IPR framework can provide qualitative researchers with a shared language for indicating the rigorous steps taken to develop interview protocols and ensure their congruency
with the study at hand” (Jones, Torres, & Arminio, 2014). To ensure the success of the interview protocol is to ensure questions from the interview align with the research questions, construct an inquiry-based conversation, allow reaction to interview protocol, and pilot the interview protocol. That’s a lot. Unpack the component parts and discuss them individually.
To better select the right candidates to participant in this research study on workplace bullying in the fast-food industry, I created a series of questions using a Likert scale to see if each person would be able to provide adequate information for the study. The Likert scale allows the researcher to get a better understanding of how each participant feel about the study. This can provide data about the selected parties and show if they will offer reliable facts to measure in the study.
When I the researcher feel that I have selected a reliable group of individuals for the investigation of workplace bullying in the fast-food industry I will communicate with each person the process that will take place in obtaining data and the timeframe in which to complete it. I will use the Survey Monkey tool to help create the actual interview questions that will lead the investigation of how each person dealt with, prevented, or acted against persons involved in the harassment of other employees on the job. Survey Monkey will help me to capture the views and voice of each participant with guiding information into the policies and procedures implemented in their businesses or organizations.
As the participants start submitting their responses, I will use reflective journals to put all information together in chronological order of events and align each section of the survey in a way as to tell the story of the participants from his or her point of view. I will not relay the information in a bias way as I would like to incorporate the actual feeling and thoughts of the selected members to ensure accurate data is given and is used to advance the investigation. Ethical Concerns
This s an inadequate discussion of ethical considerations that apply to this study.
When a study or research uses human participants, ethical approval is necessary to investigate human subjects by the university or college board of ethics. This process will ensure that each participant rights have been explained and there is a clear understanding of what the expectations are for the study. The researcher must take into consideration the ethical risk of recruiting candidates and collecting data from each person.
Each question presented in the study reflects the knowledge each person has experienced or observed in the workplace. Since workplace bullying in the fast-food industry is not a positive action, the questions presented may cause some uneasiness to the contributors causing them to feel discomfort in answering the questions. Receiving approval from the Ethics Committee will help to ease any concerns of risk the participants may encounter during the process. The participants of the study had the option to drop out of the interview process or stay in for as long as they felt needed. To help protect each person and ensure privacy the participants will be given
the interview questions via email or mail. This protects the candidates from the employer or
bully knowing their interest in taking part in this investigation. The participants were also given a consent form explaining the process in detail and his or her rights to terminate the interview at any time. If the participants agree upon the specifics contained in the consent form, each person will sign acknowledging his or her understanding of the study to take place.

Chapter Summary
Chapter III discussed the research design and methodology that will be used to collect data in the study. The aim of this study is to explore sources, impact and influential factors of workplace bullying in the fast-food industry, coping mechanism of those affecting from workplace bullying. The qualitative approach used in this study will be inductive reasoning which is the submission used concerning prediction, projecting, and performance. The research process started with research questions, a description to data gathering and last, analyzing data to determine designs and concepts. Chapter IV will discuss in more details the data analysis of the study.
