Article Review
This article is an ethnographic research study since it has focussed on understanding the growth of human trafficking and what relevant stakeholders are doing to mitigate the challenge. The study has done an in-depth analytical description of factors that result in human trafficking in different contexts, and the global programs are fighting the vice.
The research has been based on qualitative research as exhibited by its design, data collection, and analysis. In respect to the design, it adopts a naturalistic design that encompasses studying the real-world situation of human trafficking; how it has unfolded naturally, without any form of manipulation or control. For instance, the research cites reports done by distinct organizations such as the CIA in the United States and the Geneva-based International Organization from Migration (IOM) to explain the challenge’s extent. The CIA reports indicate that between 45000 and 50000 women and children get lured into the country for slave labor or prostitution. The IOM indicates the human trafficking vice is thriving, considering its $7 billion annual revenues with links to the global arms trade, prostitution, and drug trafficking. The research considers the dynamic systems for collecting information on the vice as it discusses the four phases incorporated by The Global Program Against Trafficking in Human Beings (“Global Program”) to access the regional and interregional trafficking trends, research on the best policies and practices and ensure their implementation. An inductive analysis has been incorporated as the research looks into the information to discover patterns and interrelationships between various variables.
The ethical concern arising from this research primarily arises from whether the researcher selected his research sources adequately without deception and bias to fit one’s narrative. The researcher fails to explain why he selected the sources raising ethical concerns.
Research findings imply that the reader gets an actual picture of the current situation within a particular context. Therefore, research must be done diligently to ensure that the right stakeholders can implement measures based on those findings and achieve desired results. In case the findings are falsified or do not illustrate an almost-accurate image of the research issue, it sways away from the right stakeholders and could even exacerbate a research problem.
Criminal justice research is very important in the development of decisions made within the criminal justice field. Research that is well-designed and implemented helps explore the effect of respective policies, programs, and daily practices to deal with respective challenges.
