Are Bill’s gifts a form of bribery?
Bribery is defined as an act of offering one money, goods, or a form of compensation in the interest of the giver with the aim of altering the recipient’s behavior. In the situation between Bill and Joe, with regard to the fact that they are business partners, Bill’s gifts are a form of bribery. The gift might be a genuine breach of expert and business moral, an infringement of law associated with business conduct (Smith, 2014). The act may regard the business conducted between the two as dishonest since the gifts can be considered as an act of Bill purchasing Joe’s support. Joe as a sales representative should be well aware that his work, which involves building trust and believability among his organization’s partners and shareholders, does not one in his interest receive gifts that might be considered as bribery. Therefore, accepting gifts from Bill undermines Joe’s validity.
Which ethical theory supports your view? Why?
The best way to deal with morals is to establish a teleological way in decision-making. Therefore, the ethical theory that supports the view that Bill’s gifts are formed bribery is virtue ethics. Virtue ethics is based on possessing morals to behave virtually in decision making (Pressbooks, 2020). Some of the traits of the virtue ethics include honesty, which in the case study is not attained by both ill and Joe considering their business relationship.
What other ethical issues might be associated with the relationship between Bill and Joe?
Other ethical issues that can be associated with the relationship between Bill and Joe are the gifts to be regarded as a form of kickback. A kickback is a form of a commission that is offered to someone for service rendered. In the case scenario, Joe can be considered to be accepting gifts as a form of kickback, which is unethical from Bill by accepting gifts and services (Lumen, 2020). Another ethical issue that might arise is a conflict of interest. Conflict of interest occurs when business individuals or organizations involved in multiple interests are at odd with one another. Bill and Joe’s relationship demonstrates two forms of conflict of interests; gifts and self-dealing, which might compromise the business interests between the two parties.
