Crime in America Application
This week, you learned about the four types of crime: violent, property, public order, and crime within complex organizations. For each type of crime, find an example of a recent crime reported in the media (within the last five years). Explain why each crime fits into the designated typology. Textbook: Brian K. In other words, find a total of four crimes…a violent crime, a property crime, a public order crime, and a crime within a complex organization. I’m clarifying this because in the past, students thought they had to find one crime that could fit into all four categories, which could be interesting, but would likely be pretty difficult to find!

This assignment will consist of four short paragraphs, one paragraph per crime type. Briefly describe the crime and then, in a sentence or two, explain why it fits in that typology.

At the end of each paragraph, include the link or citation for the source you used. You do not need to use any certain formatting style; simply copy the link.

Crime in America Application Assignment 1
There are four types of crimes covered in the syllabus: a property crime, a crime within a complex organization or a white-collar crime, a violent crime and a public order crime. The violent crimes are such as simple and aggravated assault, homicide, robbery, among others. Property crimes are like larceny, arson, grand theft auto, among others. A crime committed by a person who is of high social status or respectability during his term of service is what a crime within a complex organization refers to.
A violent crime
This year, there was a triple shooting at a Northwest Jacksonville park, where three people were injured. Among the three included a fifteen-year-old who was also injured when gunfire rang out. The incident happened at J. Gardner Scams Memorial Park on Richardson Road. The people in the Pikeville neighborhood were taken by surprise by this sudden display of violence. The case best fits a violent crime typology since victims are harmed through violence and violent crimes, including murder, robbery, sexual assault.

A property crime
In 2019, a woman by the name Courtney Irby was arrested for armed burglary. The woman from Polk County, Florida, tried to protect herself from domestic violence when she committed the act. The act of Armed Burglary is a felony punishable by life under the law of Florida. The case falls under the category of property crime since it involves guns or rather fires arms that belonged to the woman’s husband. Property crimes include acts like burglary like in this case, larceny, arson and grand theft auto, among others. according to Florida law, such acts are punishable by life.

A public order crime
In September 2015, two detectives working as undercover for narcotics went to buy crack in an apartment complex near twenty-third and North Laura Street. An unmarked vehicle flagged the two policemen down as one of them was still filling out paperwork. The man asked them what they wanted, and they made it known that they wanted crack cocaine. They were unable to turn on their face identification device out of fear of being identified as detectives. Still, the man whose name was Lynch alias midnight was later identified and arrested. This crime perfectly fits under public order crime since the act involved interfered with the operations of society.

A crime within a complex organization
Jason Cory happened to be the ousted CEO of a certain company that was indicted for wire fraud. According to his attorney, he was issued a warrant for arrest and was willing to surrender voluntarily to the FBI. Cory was indicted for having doubled down on his scheme and artifice to defraud when the executives and board members asked about Gambit. The case falls under a crime within a complex organization since it was a corporate crime or a white-collar crime. Cory broke the rules to benefit himself and partly the corporation. The company was founded in Jacksonville back in 2017.

In conclusion, most of the homicide cases are usually committed between people who are related in a way or who knew each other before the crime occurs due to emotional, spontaneous reasons. The street crimes and white-collar crimes are both punishable by law, although white-collar punishment is more lenient, and it involves more injuries, deaths, and economic losses. Two issues raised by consensual crime are the level at which the government prohibits the public from engaging in an act where no unwilling victims are. Two, if the laws against consensual crime do more good than harm.
