1)Good day. One of the issues we have in Tacoma, Washington is the increase in crimes. Most of them results in shooting. What the Mayor and Tacoma police department are doing are spreading their resources out into neighborhoods at a certain time of the or evening. The high points in crime. What this means is that police coverage in other neighborhoods will be at a minimum. Due to the high increase in crime Tacoma police department and the mayor does not have the resources in the budget to hire more officers. This results in high overtime and turnover from the department. They have called on security companies to help out in the venture but only businesses and private sectors can pay the security companies in the effort. Plus, security officers are not police officers, so their power is one of a citizen. The budget for more police officer is one of the public sectors. Security companies is the private sector. With all the work power set forth in neighborhoods to battle the crimes, I would say the effort has been worth it.

2)One of the central budget issues facing criminal justice organizations in Cape Cod, MA. Cape Cod’s organization is small and sometimes fails to keep up with the influx of tourists during the summer months. The budget does not seem to allow police departments or other criminal justice agencies on Cape Cod to hire a large group of state or local officers. Cape Cod has continuously struggled with people having a drug overdose, and in recent years it seems we are driving backward as minimal action has been taken.

Not having the resources they need in this situation will stretch the Police Department And leave a lasting impact that may force officers to find jobs elsewhere. It has been a struggle to hire officers living on Cape Cod simply because there are not enough. For example, more can be done in this area by providing funding to help assess residents who entered the police Academy.

Much emphasis has been put on recreating and supporting the historic environment; we should divert funding to hire more police and figure out ways to incorporate new technology to prevent drugs from entering our communities. It should not be this hard, but it will seem that way if enough resources are unavailable. The state of Massachusetts should invest more in its people, ensuring that we are building the foundation to support the state’s future.
