Developing an IFSP is very important to the success of the child
Creating an IFSP is a key part of helping a child reach their developmental goals. This plan will show what goals the child needs to reach and what each person needs to do to help the child reach those goals. Family participation is probably the most important part of the plan, since the child spends the most time with them and trusts them the most. They need to stick to the plan and talk to the other professionals who are helping care for their child so that everyone can do what they need to do. If there is a clear path to follow, everyone will know exactly what they need to do and when they need to do it. Having open communication with everyone involved will also make it possible to change or improve the plan as needed.
When making and using an IFSP, it could be hard if not everyone agrees that the same approach should be taken to help the child reach his or her developmental goals. This could make one or more people disagree with the plan and not follow it. Another problem could be that the child’s family isn’t as involved as they should be for the child to do well. If the teachers and other caretakers follow the plan, but the child’s family doesn’t, the child’s progress will be much slower and might even go backwards. It’s important for the plan to work that the family is involved.
Early intervention programs have been shown to help kids under 3 reach developmental milestones that can help them catch up to their peers. In a study by Elbaum and Celimli-Aksoy, they put children into groups based on the type of developmental disability they had and looked at how well they did in five different areas of development after getting early intervention treatment (2022). Researchers noticed that these programs seem to be changing to involve the family more. This is because they have found that involving the family makes it much more likely that a child will reach their milestones before they start preschool. They also pointed out how important it is for these programs to talk to other professionals so that the treatment plans can be continued as needed once the child is in a preschool setting (Elbaum & Celimli-Aksoy, 2022).
