Factors That Influence Disease
The selected disorder is Parkinson’s disease which is caused by genetic mutations. The patient scenario is of a middle aged woman who is suffering from the Parkinson’s disease. The woman experiences a tremor, loss of balance and slow movement. Other symptoms of the condition include dizziness and fatigue, which are evident in the woman every day. The woman has a hard time walking or carrying out activities at home. She has since been fired from her workplace since she is unable to serve customers as a sales person. Her movement is impaired due to the loss of balance and her hands cannot carry out tasks normally due to the constant tremor. It is the first time the disease has appeared in her generation. She is worried that she has to live with a helper since she cannot carry out basic chores at home.
The disease occurs due to genetic mutations in PARK7, PRKN, or SNCA genes. Therefore, heredity causes are rarely experienced. The mutations lead to changes in the brain which affect various cognitive functions that are essential in the body. Parkinson’s disease affects speech and other automatic functions of the body such as movement.
