There are different ways in which human resource management can improve the quality of health care. First, hiring staff with the right knowledge and skills promotes good health. Every department should have structured interviews to assess the behaviors of the recruits. This reduces turnover due to employees depicting behaviors that are not congruent with patient-satisfaction. It also aids the organization to acquire top talent. Turnover is detrimental to quality healthcare. Organizations that experience it rarely achieve quality care. New employees are not as effective as old ones; they require orientation to perform well. That reduces patient satisfaction.
Secondly, employees require education programs and leadership development seminars to grow their skills. Apart from teaching about basic concepts in healthcare, the organization can also provide diverse training on how to handle patients from different cultures and religious backgrounds. Leaders, managers, directors, and supervisors require leadership development training to improve their skills.
To maintain top talent, the organization should provide competitive benefits and salaries. It should prioritize employees and give rewards and promotions to those who perform well. The organization should encourage redeployment rather than layoffs. Fair payment encourages employees. Employee satisfaction ensures they perform their duties well.
The organization should encourage a patient-centered culture. It should create a mission and vision of the organization and communicate it to the employees. The organization should also outline the values that employees are expected to have. Employee engagement is essential. It ensures the employees are involved in organizational processes and decisions. Employee engagement boosts morale and motivates the health care workers to provide quality services to the patient. Employees should be encouraged to speak about the challenges they are going through so that the organization can work on them.
Finally, the organization should reduce turnover. It should hire staff based on their competency. Reducing turnover ensures the organization reduces costs. Emergency department workers should not only be hired based on competence, but also the ability to work well under intense pressure. Human resources play a vital role in health care systems. The organizations should not only pay them fairly but also provide opportunities for them to grow.
