Nursing Guide Capstone Project Topic Selection and Approval

In collaboration with the approved course preceptor, students will identify a specific evidence-based topic for the capstone project change proposal. Students should consider the clinical environment in which they are currently employed or have recently worked. The capstone project topic can be a clinical practice problem, an organizational issue, a leadership or quality improvement initiative, or an unmet educational need specific to a patient population or community. Effects of Nutrition
Nutrition is vital to humans. There are varying reasons for people making poor dietary choices, which include the inability to control their cravings and appetite. Moreover, people with low living standards and limited resources experience hardships between balancing money for housing, medical care, education, and food. The families use inadequate funds to buy affordable food with reduced nutritional benefits. The food crisis also contributes to poor diets because accessible food is limited and deficient in vitamins and minerals, which result in micronutrient deficiencies. Poor diets have consequences like poor academic performance and reduced productivity of workers leading to weak economic growth because people have chronic diseases and are unable to work. Nutrition is significant in the nursing practice because dietitians and nutritionists are insufficient in the healthcare industry, and nurses fill the roles of nutritional counsellors. Poor dietary choices cause obesity and chronic diseases and necessitate discipline to remain healthy.
Unhealthy diets increase the number of obese and overweight people and the risk of diseases. For instance, in the United States, about 33.8% which makes a third of adults are obese, and 17% of children and teenagers between ages two to nineteen (12.5 million) suffer from obesity (Hales et al., 2018). Obese people risk getting weight-related diseases like osteoporosis. Additionally, people with average weight are also at risk of getting chronic diseases because of poor diets, such as hypertension and blood pressure. The disorders also affect young children and adolescents because they take fast food with high sugar and fat content, which increases over time. After all, dietary habits established when children are young are also useful in their adulthood. Additionally, excess salt harms the bodies of individuals in the community because the extra water increases hypertension that causes strain on arteries, the brain, and kidneys, which can lead to strokes, heart attacks, kidney diseases, and dementia (Ushigome, 2018). People also take imbalanced diets, which leads to conditions like bone fractures, psychiatric disorders, tooth decay, and coronary heart diseases. Unhealthy food has adverse effects on an individual’s body.
Healthy diets are essential for maintaining peoples’ weight and managing chronic diseases associated with obesity and being overweight. According to Lim (2018), the first step for individuals in the community to stay healthy is to eat a balanced diet, comprising of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, fiber, and water. Reducing saturated sugar and fat in an individual’s diets is also important in nutrition. Examples of food with saturated fat are deep-fried food like potato chips and sausages, fatty meat cuts, cream and butter, cakes, and hard cheese (Sherwood, 2016). Consumption of foods and soft drinks with high sugar content increases the risk of obesity and causes tooth decay. Free sugars added to drinks and food also cause people to become overweight and obese. Examples of food with free sugars are sweets, chocolates, sugary breakfast cereals, biscuits, puddings and pastries, and alcoholic drinks (Swan et al., 2018). Individuals in the community of Grand Prairie have a chance of being healthy by reducing meals with unhealthy sugars and fat. Moreover, minimizing additional salt on food is a effective way of reducing blood pressure that rises from excess water storage in the body. The positive effects of healthy diets increase with regular exercise because it lowers the risks of coronary heart diseases and stroke, diabetes, breast and colon cancer, and dementia. Individuals in the community of Grand Prairie, Texas, ought to maintain healthy diets and exercise to reduce diseases and deaths.
Undernutrition increases the risk of chronic diseases caused by obesity, and healthy dietary habits promote healthy bodies and minimize diseases. Taking food with high salt, sugar, and fat content increases hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. The diseases cause deaths to individuals, which are preventable by healthy dietary habits like low sugar, fat and salt content, and taking balanced diets. Nutritious food is essential for individuals in the community.
