A knowledge worker relies on knowledge or information to make a living. The knowledge worker applies information or experience in their daily work. A good example is the accountants, engineers or physicians. The reason is that engineers must apply various concepts to solve a problem. Additionally, accountants must know how to develop a balance sheet. Therefore, the skills applied by such people is crucial in their work. A person can also apply experience as knowledge in their workplace. Nurses have been identified as knowledge workers since they apply various skills to improve patient care. The task of the nurses includes gathering data and synthesizing other research studies to enhance patient outcomes.
Nursing informatics is a concept that involves the integration of data, knowledge, and information. The term is a combination of the nursing profession that requires data, knowledge, and information to take care of patients. The purpose of nursing informatics is to enhance the quality of decisions made regarding patient care. It thus deals with collecting data about patients and analyzing it to make conclusions. Nurses are thus required to keep all the data about their patients. The data will be stored over a period of time and analyzed. The analysis will show the trend of various illnesses and thus predict future scenarios and prevent such cases from occurring.
Nursing informatics is applied in various medical institutions across the world. John Hopkins is one of the hospitals across the world using nursing informatics. The concept is tied closely to evidence-based practice, which deals with using the latest evidence or knowledge in the medical field to make decisions. Nurses rely on the data collected and analyzed to make the right decisions on the approaches to be employed. Nurses are faced by challengers such as new diseases such as a disease bacteria that keeps changing. The application of nursing informatics is essential to the healthcare. Additionally, it helps nurses to discover various traits about patients. Therefore, it is essential to the healthcare delivery to the patients.

Nurse leaders are regarded as knowledge workers due to the nature of the work they carry out. Nurse leaders apply theoretical and analytical knowledge to treat patients. The application of knowledge is through what they have learned in school or the experience they have gained in their field of work. Nurses are involved in treating patients by carrying out tests to establish the cause of illness. The diagnosis involves clinical tests which require the application of knowledge. Additionally, some clinical assessments demand skills that will ascertain what a patient is suffering from. The study of bacteria or virus and the prescription of drugs requires the application of knowledge or experience. Therefore, nurse leaders are knowledge workers.
John Hopkins is a classic example of a nursing center where nurses apply knowledge to enhance patient outcomes. For example, nurses in John Hopkins hospital rely on evidence-based practice to make conclusions or diagnosis. The application of evidence-based practice is a clear sign that they are knowledge workers. The reason is that evidence-based practice deals with applying the best and current evidence in medical practice. Additionally, nurses must be involved in making clinical assessments to promote better healthcare. A hypothetical example is that the hospital has upgraded various medical procedures due to the nursing informatics and application of knowledge and data.
The infographic above shows that serious claims that nurses have to deal with every week. The various problems include people who have been assaulted and injured, people who have muscular stress, the aged that need residential care and the people with pain on their back of limbs. The numerous cases that need to be handled every week requires nurses to be armed with information on how to treat such cases. The treatment can be for a child, adult or aged person. Additionally, some assault cases require emergency responses. Therefore, it is crucial for them to be knowledge workers who are armed with data, experience and knowledge. Additionally, they must apply nursing informatics to make their work easier and professional.
