The Role of Nurses in Reducing Patient Falls
Several factors can lead to patient patient-safety risk, such as falls. These factors can be classified as the process of care, human factors, environmental factors and even technical factors. Among the process factors, one of the aspects that might lead to risk includes miscommunication between the health professional and patients. There are also a few missing or incorrect protocol that might contribute to process factors as an aspect of patient safety risk (Real et al., 2017). The human factors would include unsafe social attitude and human behaviours that result from the particular patient-provider relationship (Nantsupawat et al., 2016). The environmental condition would often involve aspects such as inadequate managed and of the workload disruptive elements. Ways Improve patient safety related to patient fall
EBP can provide an effective way to deal with a fall in healthcare. Among the essential steps is that EBP seeks to determine the factors that increase the risk of falls. EBP then provide critical steps that can help in dealing with these risk factors (Real et al., 2017). Some of the factors include;
• Adopting universal fall precaution that provides for schedule rounding protocol
• The second approach would be to develop a standardized assessment approach to risk factors of falls.
• There is a focus on planning and inventions that seek to deal with the identified risk factors in the entire care plan for the patients.
• The last focus is on developing post-fall procedures that would focus on clinical reviews identifying the root cause analysis.
Organizing care
Nurses can play an essential role in care coordination to reduce patient falls. Coordination involves deliberately organizing the responsibility of the patient with all stakeholders that are concerned with the responsibility of the patients (Real et al., 2017). In this case, the focus of the nurse is to get the patient’s needs and preferences and incorporate them into the care process. In doing this, the nurses would be required to get the requirements and the preferences of the patients ahead of time and communicate them to the right people (Alexander et al., 2015). • Working towards aligning resource with patient and populations
The stakeholders
While the patient is the most critical stakeholder in the process of achieving safety for the patients, the family also plays an important role. The family is crucial since these are the people that would be involved in the process of caregiving. This is quite important when dealing with the elderly and patients that might need home care (Alexander et al., 2015). The role of the family is to understand the healthcare needs of the patient and take part in the decision making for the best care. The other stakeholder that might have an impact on the responsibility of the patients is the physicians. The nurses would need to communicate effectively with the physicians on the conditions of the patients to ensure that maximum health care  is achieved.
