T0 Prepare:
• Review the Resources on healthcare policy and regulatory/legislative topics related to health and nursing informatics.
• Consider the role of the nurse informaticist in relation to a healthcare organization’s compliance with various policies and regulations, such as the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).
• Research and select one health or nursing informatics policy (within the past 5 years) or regulation for further study.
The Assignment: (1 page)
Create a 1-page fact sheet that your healthcare organization could hypothetically use to explain the health or nursing informatics policy/regulation you selected. Your fact sheet should address the following:
• Briefly and generally explain the policy or regulation you selected.
• Address the impact of the policy or regulation you selected on system implementation.
• Address the impact of the policy or regulation you selected on clinical care, patient/provider interactions, and workflow.
• Highlight organizational policies and procedures that are/will be in place at your healthcare organization to address the policy or regulation you selected. Be specific.

Informaticist Fact Sheet
• The selected policy is on artificial intelligence in healthcare settings. The policy states that the adoption of artificial intelligence must involve secure channels of sharing personal information. The security is necessary to avoid leakage of personal details to unauthorized personnel who can use it against the owners (Calo, 2017). The policy requires data and digital infrastructure to be developed to secure the data. The digital infrastructure is required to handle all forms of data that need to be shared with the new platform.
• The implementation of the policy will require the allocation of funds to develop the necessary digital infrastructure for appropriate sharing of data. It will digitize some healthcare functions that were previously carried out manually by healthcare professionals (Jha & Topol, 2016). The top management will also need to be involved to make decisions on what will be automated and what will remain the manual mode. They will provide direction on the level of artificial intelligence technology adoption. The system implementation will also require a pilot study to examine the execution of healthcare provision and the effect of technology on the quality of care. The pilot will provide the necessary details on customizing the implementation to fit the specific healthcare issues.
• The policy is expected to improve the efficiency of healthcare operations. The availability of data will boost the decisions of a healthcare professional. The healthcare experts will carry out an in-depth analysis of healthcare issues presented to them. It will help in the proper allocation of nurses during shifts (Calo, 2017). Another impact on the quality of care is that it will reduce the rate of medical errors in healthcare settings. The availability of data will also boost the quality of decisions health professionals make. The decision-making will be improved due to the availability of data such as prescription, scan, and treatment of critically ill patients.
• The data will improve the interaction between patients and healthcare providers. The interaction will improve due to the availability of analyzed data about patients. When the digital infrastructure is created it will allow secure sharing of information thus protecting the patients from any harm (Calo, 2017). It will also affect the workflow since all the data will be available for appropriate decision-making.
• The healthcare policies that will need to be already functional include a clear description of the scope of artificial intelligence in the healthcare facility. It will also require a comprehensive overview of the roles of an informaticist. It is also crucial to describe other collaborators who will help the informaticist to accomplish the intended goal (Barnes, 2016). Implementation of artificial intelligence policy will also require procedures on healthcare budget to be approved by the management. The budget will be essential in supporting the changes that will occur as a result of the implementation.
• The healthcare organization will require a change management plan. It will involve training the nurses on the importance of artificial intelligence and how they should apply it. Change management will also require a procedure that will be used as a tool for monitoring and evaluation (Jha & Topol, 2016). The tool will be used to assess the progress and measure the impact on patient outcomes. Another necessary procedure is to describe the future areas that may be embedded in the implementation of artificial intelligence including surgery. The policy will be necessary to make future projections and assess the achievement of the milestones towards the desired future.
