Introduction
Global poverty should be eradicated because it has a negative impact on the health of individuals, the global economy and leads to crime. The high rate of global poverty has become a serious problem that has put the human development on a break. Over the years, the impacts of poverty have stretched all over the globe and almost half the entire population of the word has been affected. Cases of extreme poverty are experienced in developing countries and they are caused by corruption and conflict. Although, various scholars have researched on the various benefits of global poverty, still the negative impacts reach deeper. The negative impacts of poverty are revolving and one effect lead to another. It has also challenged the world peace and human dignity. In nations such as India and Pakistan, the problem has resulted in the formulation of a global counter-terrorism strategy. In Dubai, the high rates of unemployment were caused by lack of education and this has a negative impact on the economy.
Health Impacts
The health of an individual has a correlation with poverty as the ability to go to work or school depends on the person’s wellbeing and health. It’s estimated that more than a billion people survive on less than a dollar a day, while about two billion people live on less a two dollar a day (Poverty &Health, 2010). This situation doesn’t allow them to save or meet their health costs thus causing prolonged hospitalizations. In countries that face extreme poverty levels, the interaction between health and poverty may affect the whole range of opportunities, human capabilities and possibilities of individuals. Evidence has also closely linked hunger, poor child health, and poverty. A child with poor health may lead to poor performance in school and latter inability to find employment and support the family, thus leading to a complete cycle of poverty.
In the United مساعدة التعيين – خدمة كتابة المقالات من قبل كبار الكتاب العرب, Arabs Emirates, families that live in extreme poverty may fail to visit medical facilities since they are unable to meet the medical costs. Most مساعدة التعيين – خدمة كتابة المقالات من قبل كبار الكتاب العرب, Arabic countries such as Dubai lack a comprehensive medical insurance system that can cover every citizen. In absence of this insurance cover, most household relies on personal healthcare funding when one member of the family is ill. The situation is worse if the breadwinner of the family is sick and Emirates countries such as Dubai don’t provide for sick leave.
Poverty has been linked to poor sanitation. Individuals living in poverty are exposed to poor working conditions that may put their lives at risk for disability and illness. It’s estimated that about 40% of the global population lacks access to proper sanitation and more than 1billion people still consume unsafe water (Murray, 2006). Individuals living in extreme poverty may also develop diseases such as cholera and typhoid. In مساعدة التعيين – خدمة كتابة المقالات من قبل كبار الكتاب العرب, Arab countries, most people that work in oil companies are exposed to poor sanitation.
Moore et al (2009) have argued that there is a close relationship between poverty and the overall wellbeing of the child. Children who are raised in poverty are more likely to drop out of school, have health and emotion problem and low academic performance as compared with children from more affluent families. The global trends show that the poverty rate for younger children has increased by a greater percentage over the years.
Impact on economy
Poverty has a negative impact on the economy of a country as it affects the prosperity of a community. Individuals living in extreme poverty have limitations in the development of the human capital as they are not able to constantly remain healthy and contribute both labor and their talents to the economy. There is a close relationship between poverty, health, and the economy. Statistics indicate that HIV/AIDS is more prevalent in developing countries and it’s also in these countries that the poverty level is high. The incidence of the disease creates a gap in employment as most people are not healthy. Most individuals living in poverty may lack the necessary infrastructure to grow and develop their talents. When talents are properly nurtured, they can be exported and have a positive input in the economy.
A high level of poverty also contributes to a decrease in the human capital thus putting a strain in the resources provided by the government. Human capital refers to the training education and health of an individual. It is referred to as a capital because they are an integral part of us and they contribute on how we work. Individuals living in extreme poverty may lack the necessary education and training that can promote efficiency and growth (Warren, 2012). Having the right education equips an individual with the necessary skills to perform tasks. Individuals in developing countries lack technical know-how which results in high unemployment rates which may transit to a poor economy.
Poverty deprives the government’s resources and funds and resources. According to Ellen (2016), its estimated that in the United Kingdom, 25% of the healthcare is used in treating conditions that are related to poverty and another 20% of the total budget is used on education initiatives such as free meals to curb the menace. It is also estimated that about $7.5 billion is used on children’s services that are associated with poverty. Eradicating poverty may cost governments a big chunk of their treasury as it may involve long-term initiatives. This has negatively impacted the economy of U.K.
Crime
Where there is poverty there is high crime rate. This is because lack of economic opportunities that are associated with poverty leads to impoverishment which may result in crime. It is estimated that about ninety-three million people in the world are jobless and in most developing countries such as Angola and Congo where there is extreme poverty, the number is higher. In a research that was conducted in the Caribbean, it was noted that the lack of employment fueled criminal activities in the region and was mostly in those who are aged 15 to 24 years. Because of the high rates of unemployment and poverty in the Caribbean job market, there has been a significant increase in the murders and this is higher than any part of the world (Holzer et al., 2007). In Abu Dhabi, research has shown that most inmates in correctional facilities were accused of poverty-related crimes. Most people in the United مساعدة التعيين – خدمة كتابة المقالات من قبل كبار الكتاب العرب, Arabs Emirates countries have a strong desire for luxury yet they cannot afford it. This has resulted in a 6% increment in crime.
According to Satyanathan &Pollack (n.d), almost half of children and mothers in Michigan are homeless. Research has also shown that about 63% of welfare recipients have experienced domestic violence and physical abuse. Most persons who are involved in domestic violence cite that they have failed to report the cases because of the inaccessibility of legal assistance and being homeless. Poverty may also cause the women and children not to flee despite the constant abuses. Most of them are more reliant on men to provide and support them hence they may not opt to get out of the marriage. Poverty may also lead to sexual harassment and abuse in women.
Poverty has also been linked to street crimes globally. In the United States of America, the rate of mental illness is higher in rich than poor people. Extreme poverty can result in stress that can lead to theft and acts of violence. Poverty may also decrease the chances of individuals to have access to education, role models or jobs and this may, therefore, increase their probability of spending their time on the streets with gangs (Taylor, n.d).
Counterarguments
Although poverty is linked to various negative impacts, there are also some positive elements of poverty in the community and globally. Gans (2012) argues that having poor people in society ensures that there is the availability of cheap and available labor in society. Those living in poverty help in carrying out tasks in risky environments such as mines. In the United مساعدة التعيين – خدمة كتابة المقالات من قبل كبار الكتاب العرب, Arabs Emirates, those living in poverty offers cheap labor in the oils fields and this helps in boosting the economy since the oil is exported and earns the country foreign revenue.
Those living in the streets because of poverty engage in disreputable and illegal activities such as selling of drugs such as heroine and prostitution in automobiles. These activities have also helped in the creation of professions such as police officers that protects the society from these drugs. Prostitution also helps to balance the society in a way that there should be “good’ and “bad”.
Poverty has also led to the creation of government programs. Gans (2012) argues that those living in extreme poverty do benefit from the creation of programs that are formed by the government to control and reform them. For instance, the low-income sick individuals are responsible for the creation of emergency units and essay writing help jobs for the medical staffs. They have also helped in the creation of mental health units and social work in different countries around the world. Social workers help to treat those involved in domestic violence and those abused.
Conclusion
Although there are various benefits of poverty in the world, the negative impacts have exceeded the benefits and advantages of poverty. Poverty has a negative impact in the world although there is no research conducted about poverty in the United مساعدة التعيين – خدمة كتابة المقالات من قبل كبار الكتاب العرب, Arab Emirates because of various restrictions by the governments. Individuals around the globe are negatively affected by the increased rates of poverty and this has led to deterioration in health, increased crime and increased rate of unemployment. Therefore, it’s important that different governments around the world should develop measures to eradicate poverty around the globe.
