Precision medicine is a medical model that promotes custom and effective treatment and prevention of diseases. It was launched in 2016 by former President Obama. The model takes into account the genetic content of a person to administer appropriate optimal therapy. It is used by nurses to treat and prevent adverse diseases symptoms across diverse populations (Nevidjon, 2018). The policy is effective in preventing and treating diseases with bacteria or viruses that evolve constantly.
Precision medicine has an impact on the healthcare sector since it improves the health status of patients. It affects the system implementation since nurses will change their approach of handling patients. The role of nurses in treating and preventing illnesses will be improved using precision medicine (Oruche, Carpenter, Renbarger & Ross, 2016). Additionally, the precision medicine policy will alter the medication prescribed to patients due to their genetic composition.
Precision medicine will affect the role of nurses since it will make it elaborate. Nurses will also be required to educate the patients on the role of the new policy to boost health outcomes (Pinto, Saravia, Flores, Araujo, Martínez, Schwarz & Alvarado, 2019). Additionally, the role of the nurses will be to consider each patient as a unique individual who requires specific treatment.
My organization will require to adjust various policies and procedures to ensure precision medicine is successful. For example, there is a need to introduce molecular diagnostics, imaging as well as for analytics. Therefore, patients will undergo intensive diagnosis to ensure the accurate genetic content is identified (Austin, 2018). Other policies that may change include preventive approaches to be introduced upon establishing the genetic content. The medication will also change since people will require special medication to address their specific issues.
