Information Systems in Nursing

Research paper writing help – Write a paper in which you analyze an information system for its effectiveness in improving patient care. Preparation Select an example of a current information system used in the delivery of patient care. Note: Ideally, select a system from your workplace to examine. If you are not currently working, select a system from an organization close to where you live. This technology should be used for data management designed to improve patient care. Familiarize yourself with the technology. Do some personal research to gain a deeper understanding about the technology. Visit the Web site of the company who markets the technology to familiarize with how the company positions the technology in the market. Read articles online and in the library related to your chosen system. Remember to take notes to keep track of what you discover. Examine the following aspects of the technology: How is the information system designed to contribute to safety and quality in the care of patients? What types of data are tracked, monitored, stored, and trended in the system? How well does it accomplish what it is designed to do in your chosen real-world setting? How is this information system used to support research or action by nurse researchers, leaders, and informaticists? If it is not currently being used to support research, how could it be used in the future? What types of opportunities are available for nurses, in any scope of practice, that gives them the chance to participate in the design and testing of this system? How might the technology be enhanced so it better meets the needs of the professionals currently using the system? Compare what you learn with how your chosen technology is being used in the workplace. Think about your own workplace and consider speaking with other professionals who currently use the systems

Information Systems in Nursing
The selected information system is Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM). The system is used to monitor patients outside conventional clinical settings. It helps nurses to monitor patients at home thus improving access to healthcare and reducing the cost of treatment (Bhatti et al., 2018). The information system contributes to safety and quality of care by addressing emergency cases such as heart diseases thus saving lives. It utilizes mobile medical technology that gathers and transmits data from a patient at home to a practitioner in a healthcare facility (Ong et al., 2015). The information is used to prescribe medication or need for further assessment.
RPM deals with various types of data including blood pressure, glucose levels, weight, heart rate, caloric intake, substance abuse, dementia, and infertility monitoring (Maguire et al., 2015). The data is monitored, stored and transmitted to a healthcare professional. The data is then transferred to the nurses for further evaluation and diagnosis.
The information system accomplishes its work by monitoring the condition of a patient and transmitting data to a nurse. The information will be used to make further recommendations regarding health status (Bhatti et al., 2018). It is also used to alert patients if their condition is improving or deteriorating. For example, blood pressure is used to assess if a patient needs further medical checkup. Additionally, continuous surveillance tools can alert nurses when a patient with dementia falls down.
RPM is used to support research since it helps in gathering real data about the conditions of patients. The data gathered is accurate thus it is used in generating conclusions that enhance the quality of treatment (Maguire et al., 2015). It is also used to support action by nurse leaders and informaticists since it shows them the policies they should make to support better remote patient care. Informaticists also get data that is analyzed and used to make recommendations on how to take care of various conditions and avoid preventable deaths. RPM will also be used in future to support research since more patients will be enrolled in the remote nursing care (Maguire et al., 2015). The high number of patients will be used to generate data that can be used to make better conclusions, policies, and recommendations.
Nurses have an opportunity to participate in the design and testing of the RPM. Nurses have an opportunity to recommend to the manufacturing companies of various design elements that should be adjusted (Ong et al., 2015). They should also participate in the testing process when the remote monitoring equipment is delivered in the healthcare facility. During the testing the nurses should be cautious of the functionality, reliability, efficiency and data integrity (Ong et al., 2015). Any problem in data management should be noted and recommended before installation.
RPM can be improved in different ways to meet the needs of the professionals using it. One of the improvements is enhancing data security to reduce the risk of data being stolen by third parties (Kakria, Tripathi & Kitipawang, 2015). Another improvement that should be considered is real-time access to data. The data is delayed since it has to go through various channels before it gets to the final destination. The delay should be eliminated since it can compromise the quality of care especially for emergency cases (Bhatti et al., 2018). The systems should be integrated to enhance better patient care for patients. For example, United Kingdom healthcare has software that is outdated compared to the systems in the United States.
I have learned that the RPM system can be used to take care of patients suffering from diverse conditions from a remote location. However, in my current workplace the systems are not used to take care of patients suffering from dementia (Kakria, Tripathi & Kitipawang, 2015). RPM system has an option of installing continuous monitoring systems that alert nurses in case a patient falls down. Additionally, the systems should also be improved to minimize the challenges of data security (Maguire et al., 2015). Currently, the RPM system data is managed by a third party whose guarantee is not assured.
A study help on the potential of RPM systems shows that it has a massive potential to improve patient care. I would thus prefer to talk to management, nurse leaders, and informaticists to ensure they consider improving the systems to address the current weaknesses (Ong et al., 2015). The discussion will also include involving nurses in the design, testing, and implementation of the RPM systems.
