John Lewis Partnership (JLP) offers space to high-end brands in their stores and has recognised Atterley’s model as an online version of what they offer in store. Importantly, JLP sees Atterley as a potential strategic acquisition target given JLP has closed 8 out of its 60 stores in the country due to COVID-19 and is now looking to rent the same store spaces to other businesses. You are currently working as JLP’s change lead. To make this merger a success JLP’s CEO is keen to keep all staff from the acquired company, Atterley. While a very good gesture, this poses problems of cultural integration. The CEO is aware of success of mergers (a mere 30%) however, she is confident that she will be able to avoid the famous pitfalls of the past.
To ensure the top management achieves a smooth move, you are expected to produce a 3000-word report for the CEO – who is rightly concerned for the success of the move.
In this report you will be required to evidence the following:
Task 1: Evaluate theories of leadership with reference to culture issues and the barriers that management must prepare to face whilst implementing this change. (40%)
Task 2: With reference to the case scenario, analyse the effectiveness of ProSci’s ADKAR model and Kubler-Ross’ Change Curve suggesting ways of practically managing the change for achieving the desired success. (50%)
