After CVS Health, Walgreen Organization is an American-based company active in the United States as the second-largest retail store retailer. Background Information
Walgreens opened on Chicago’s Bowen and Cottage Grove Roads in 1901 with a small food front store run by Charles R. Walgreen, a native of Galesburg. Via 1913, Walgreens had expanded to four shops on the South Side of Chicago. The first opened in 1915 and four more opened in 1916. By 1919, the chain had 20 stores. Rein unexpectedly retired as CEO on October 10, 2008 and was replaced as Chairman and Acting CEO by Alan G. McNally. On January 26, 2009, Gregory Wasson was elected CEO, effective February 1, 2009. In February 2020, the appointment of Richard Ashworth as President of the company was confirmed by Walgreens. He served as Head of Operations for Walgreens previous to his nomination.
