Sexual assault can be defined as the sexual contact or actions that are carried on an individual without his or her consent or the behavior happens to force the victim to engage in a sexual act without his or her consent (White, 2015). It is important to note that the force involved during a sexual assault does not always refer to the physical pressure to coerce a person into the sexual act, but the offenders may make use of emotional coercion, manipulation as well as a psychological force to commit non-consensual sex (Ward, 2007). Research shows that approximately seventy percent of sexual assaults is committed by people well known to the victims such as intimate sexual violence among partners or acquaintance rape (Hawkins & Domoney, 2012). There exist two broad categories of sexual assaults namely the acquaintance and stranger sexual assault.
