I. Introduction
Sexual assault can be defined as the sexual contact or actions that are carried on an individual without his or her consent or the behavior happens to force the victim to engage in a sexual act without his or her consent (White, 2015). It is important to note that the force involved during a sexual assault does not always refer to the physical pressure to coerce a person into the sexual act, but the offenders may make use of emotional coercion, manipulation as well as a psychological force to commit non-consensual sex (Ward, 2007). Research shows that approximately seventy percent of sexual assaults is committed by people well known to the victims such as intimate sexual violence among partners or acquaintance rape (Hawkins & Domoney, 2012). There exist two broad categories of sexual assaults namely the acquaintance and stranger sexual assault. Stranger sexual assault can happen in the form of blitz, contact and home invasion sexual assault.

A. Point 1: Types of sexual assault.

Research shows that there are various types of sexual assaults such as rape, sexual harassment, child sexual abuse, elderly sexual assault, domestic violence, groupings as well as mass sexual assault of which each has the many effects that it poses to the life of its victims (Teixeira & Kennedy, 2015).
B. Point 2: Statistics and trends regarding sexual assault.

Various studies including one conducted by the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), show that the rate of sexual assault and rape has fallen by 63% since the year 1993 (Rutherford, 2017). It has been seen that sexual assault can happen in both women, children, the elderly, males, military people and all other members of the society despite many people believing that it is a thing of women and children only (Rutherford, 2017). Also, it has been noted that sexual assault can happen under whatever circumstance and location as cases of sexual assault have been reported in schools, work, near homes as well as in strange places (Light & Monk-Turner, 2008).
C. Point 3: Effects of a sexual assault

There are various effects that sexual assault has on both the victims, relatives as well as the society’s economy at large. Among the effects that victims of sexual assault can experience include emotional, physical as well as economic effects that have adverse effects to the society at large (Ward, 2007). Emotional effects include the trauma that one undergoes after the assault while the physical effects may be in the form of bruises and bleeding that may accompany forced rape (Hawkins & Domoney, 2012). Also, the victims may be affected economically as whenever sexual assaults happen they may lose jobs or become less productive while at work (Kennedy, 2013).
D. Point 4: How to prevent sexual assault

Various institutions such as secondary schools, colleges as well as workplaces and public education programs can team up to prevent sexual assault and other forms of sexual harassment (Barone, Wolgemuth, & Linder, 2007). Among the ways that sexual assault can be prevented is by taking responsibility of one’s sexuality and not letting it be defined by other parties as well as people avoiding taking alcohol or taking other drugs to get another person to have sex as this will amount to having sex without the consent of the person under alcohol (Schwartz, Milteer & Lebeau, 2000). Also, educating people on the need to keep off sexual assault and other forms of sexual harassment has shown that people can change their behaviors if well informed of the dangers that accompany the act (Berkseth, Meany, & Zisa, 2017).
III. Conclusion
It is important to note that sexual assault is a social problem that is affecting a large population in the US and failure to address the issue now, then it may end up being worse. It is important to note that not only rape amounts to sexual assault and thus the law enforcers, as well as other stakeholders in the fight against this write my essay social problem, need to put more weight on all types of sexual assaults so that they can win this war. Also, based on the existing statistics of cases of sexual assault, it is clear that this cases if not addressed appropriately then the society will continue to suffer from the many emotional, social and economic effects that accompany sexual assault. Also, another thing that can help in reducing the cases of sexual assault is by adhering to the prevention measures against rape, creating awareness among the members of the society regarding rape as well as enacting severe legislation to punish sexual assault offenders.
