Help lead the transformation of healthcare by earning a master’s degree in health informatics! The fast-growing field of health informatics is receiving considerable attention as part of the reorganization of healthcare delivery in the United States.

Health informatics, as defined by the National Library of Medicine, is the “interdisciplinary study of the design, development, adoption and application of information technology-based innovations in healthcare services delivery, management, and planning.” It is concerned with the management and use of health data and information through technology. Health Informatics aims at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of care delivery by ensuring that data used for operational and clinical decisions are of high quality. Healthcare organizations who have adopted health informatics realize improved patient outcomes, patient participation, clinician satisfaction and cost management.

According to the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), health informatics jobs are surging as healthcare providers throughout the country seek experts who can help them achieve the federally mandated meaningful use of electronic health records. Financial penalties took effect in 2015 for Medicare and Medicaid providers who failed to make the transition. Being an expert with a health informatics degree positions you for potential career growth, since a master’s in health informatics is one of the most desirable levels of informatics training and education.
