As the new chief executive officer (CEO) of St. Michael’s Medical Center, you are wellversed in risk mitigation. You are also aware of the critical role that interdisciplinary teamwork plays. Teamwork is important in finding solutions to ethical and legal issues in the hospital. You note that one of the biggest problems at St. Michael’s Medical Center has been the lack of teamwork and training.
For this assignment, you will review the course scenario on St. Michael’s Medical Center and prepare a memo for all managers, supervisors, and staff to review and acknowledge receipt.
In this memo, you will address the following:
Highlight the failures of hospital management practices, especially those leading to the lawsuits at St. Michael’s Medical Center. What barriers and challenges are there in resolving ethical and legal problems? What are the benefits of addressing these barriers and challenges promptly? What are the benefits of interdisciplinary teamwork, especially addressing ethical issues and patient safety outcomes? What are the limitations of interdisciplinary team collaboration that the staff should be aware of and avoid? How do healthcare organizations promote the culture of patient safety? What strategies should be deployed to reduce or eradicate ethical and legal violations in the hospital? What is the role of a designated ethics committee in the hospital?
