Reinforcement Project: Who’s Who – Getting an Autograph

Student should have a letter asking for an autographed photo from a well-known person in a
profession. The letter should include the following:
Letter Uses Block Format
All text is Times New Roman, 12 points
All paragraphs should be aligned left, single spaced, and not indented
All paragraphs are separated by one line (except the Letter Closing, which should have 3 or 4
lines after it)
Letter Structure and Content
1) At the top of the letter should be the student
address. This includes the following lines:
Student’s name
Teacher’s name
Class period
School’s street name
School’s City, State, and Zip
2) After the address, should be the date (e.g.
month, day, year) and the salutation (e.g. “Dear
Mr./Mrs./Ms.” and then the last name of the
person, followed by a comma.)
3) After the salutation is the body of the letter,
starting with the introduction paragraph, which
should include:
• Who the student is and where the
student is from
• Why the student is writing this letter
4) Next should be a detailed paragraph, which
includes:
• Why the student chose this person
• A few sentences why the student finds
the person interesting
5) The body of the letter ends with a closing
paragraph, which includes:
• Restate why the student is writing
• Thank the person for his/her time
6) Letter closing, which includes:
• Closing statement: “Thank you,” or
“Sincerely,”
• 3-4 blank lines, then student’s full name
In general, the letter should have a polite, formal
tone (e.g. no slang).
