Nursing informatics can be described as a combination of different sciences ranging from nursing, information and computer science with an ability to process and manage information and data so as to promote healthcare delivery (Matney, Avant, Staggers, 2015). Professional nursing judgment is derived from the knowledge acquired by nurses during their academic studies and experiences obtained from handling patients. Nursing informatics involves the skills necessary to make sound decisions in regards to the collected data and information (Matney, Avant, Staggers, 2015). As such, in order to come up with a professional nursing decision, it is necessary for the nurse to obtain as much information as possible to ensure that the decision made is informed. The wisdom in nursing is usually acquired during nursing practice where additional knowledge is gained through regular interactions with nurses which often lead to the practioners developing a sixth sense on how to handle different situations (Matney, Avant, Staggers, 2015). As such, nursing wisdom is built on many factors which are mainly made of education, experience, available informatics, instinct and nursing judgment.
Clinical reasoning reflects in DIKW transformation where nurses use their clinical reasoning to interpret or sort out data so that they are able to compare it with the data provided (Tuyen, 2018). The knowledge obtained from this data assessment is then used for making clinical judgments so as to give the patient the best care possible. As such, in order to come up with a professional nursing decision, it is necessary for the nurse to obtain as much information as possible to ensure that the decision made is informed.
