Introduction
The implementation of numerous national cybersecurity strategies has pursued respective cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention objectives. These strategies have been established as per particular principles which determine the strategy’s foundation, outlining the interest to be protected, recognizing the mechanisms required for the promotion and protection of identified interests, recognizing the cyber threats and the potential problems that could be posed by respective threats to either the national and economic security. Furthermore, the strategies also depict the priorities of the cybersecurity policy and resource allocation for the priorities. This discussion will delve into the current top national policies running to combat cybercrimes. Also, the discussion will include the primary agencies that deal with preparing, responding, and recovering from cyber-attacks.
Top National Policies To Combat Cyber Crimes
The National CyberSecurity Strategy is among the fundamental cybersecurity policies in the United States. Its implementation is focused on ensuring Americans consistently obtain maximal benefits from having secure cyberspace. The attainment of this objective becomes a reflection of the country’s principles, which are upholding security levels and promoting its prosperity (National Cyber Strategy of the United States of America, 2018). Therefore, the strategy stipulates different guidelines on how the American administration should defend its country by protecting its respective networks, systems, functions, and information. It provides several recommendations for Information Databases, including centralized management and oversight in federal civilian cybersecurity. Also, the strategy proposes aligning risk management within the information technology activities in conjunction with setting up secure critical infrastructure (National Cyber Strategy of the United States of America, 2018). From the strategy, the right stakeholders promote American prosperity by nurturing a secure and thriving digital economy while fostering consistent innovation.
The second important strategy is the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP), specifically through the Security and Resilience Challenge (Department of Homeland Security (DHS), 2021). This challenge is unique due to its help in identifying and funding innovative ideas that avail both tools and technologies for their exploitation by the critical infrastructure community. The projects established under the NIPP Challenge focus on achieving tangible near-term results that are easily and quickly developed and implemented. Their objectives also include getting sustainable long-term results that will boost the security and resilience of critical infrastructure. It is prudent to note that as more research and innovation are happening, the security risk heightens. However, when the security aspect is considered during implementation, the critical infrastructure community will receive continuous fundamental benefits.
