Overview:
In this discussion, an analysis of data will be performed. To be specific, the data set is from an organization called “Superstore,” which is a chain of stores that operates in different states in the US. The data demonstrates information pertaining to the organization’s sales. For instance, the data displays records of different regions in the country, the type of products it provides to its clients, the shipping mode that is largely used, the amount of products delivered, profit of different products in different sub-categories, and even the clients information among others. For this analysis, the use case will focus on the excel functions “COUNTIF” and “COUNTIFS” that is effective in large data sets.
Reasoning:
Tentatively, after analyzing the data, there are a few reasons as to why the information is useful to the company. For example, data in the data set is so much, which means that sifting through the entire set to look for sales for a particular city will be hard and stressful. Nevertheless, the data can assist in finding exact sales for specific events, like the total sales for a particular city. In addition, the data is useful to the company in that it can be used to show which region in the country is performing and which is not. Other than that, the data is also useful in establishing the preference of consumers, relating to either shipping mode, category of products or the city with highest sales in terms of quantity.

Accordingly, the functions that have been used with regard to this discussion include:
a) =COUNTIF(City,”Madison”) – to search for sales coming from Madison city in the data set.
b) =COUNTIF(City, “Los Angeles”) – to search for sales coming from Los Angeles city in the data set.
c) =COUNTIF(Category, “Furniture”) – to search for sales for a specific category, like furniture products in the data set.
d) =COUNTIF(Ship_Mode, “First Class”) – to search for sales in the data set that were shipped in line with a specific shopping mode, such as first class.
e) =COUNTIFS(City,”Los Angeles”, Ship_Mode,”First Class”) – to search for sales that come from a specific city, where the shipping mode is first class.
f) =COUNTIFS(Region,”South”, Category,”Furniture”) – to search for a sales that come from a specific region, like the South where the category of products is furniture.
g) =COUNTIFS(Region,”West”, Category,”Technology”, Quantity,”>=5″) – to search for sales coming from a specific region, where the category selected is technology and the quantity exceeded a specific quantity ordered.
