Childhood Emotional Abuse and Adult Attachment for College Dating Couples
The type of study is a cross-sectional study that encompasses a survey of a group of people. In this case, the college students in dating relationships obtain information relating to emotional abuse, adult attachment, and depression to indicate aggression and relational adjustments. Through this, the researcher obtains opinions and facts from the respondents. The study primarily explores the relationship between maltreatment in children and its consequences in future adulthood and its outcomes (Riggs, 2010). The research is quantitative. It explains the phenomena using numerical data; for essence, the uses of information questionnaires are formulated to obtain information such as age, family, race, and other vital information of the respondent. Additionally, the respondent’s results were analyzed using mathematically based methods, and variables were represented systematically on tables.
Based on the research results, it is conclusive that children who suffer emotional maltreatment are likely to transfer insecurities to their adult lives and relationships, which resulted in adult emotional anxiety. On the other hand, emotional abuse resulted in attachment avoidance. Following the results, the main contributing factors to this adult attachment and depression is physiological victimization (Riggs, 2010). Additionally, depression contributed to the highest percentage of physiological aggression variance but was not significant for dyadic adjustment. Following the research, I have deduced that the U.S justice system has inadequately represented the emotional maltreatment as it is not fully presented in child protection statures on some Stata. This has resulted in many of these cases going unreported. The ethical consequence of this is contributed by caregivers that fail during the early interaction by being insensitive, consequently raising kids with insecure adult attachments even in their future relationships.
