Health care in the United States is arguably very complex and bears little resemblance to a “true system”. How can the United States improve on the five dimensions of performance (quality, access, efficiency, equity, and healthy lives)?
It is very hard and complicated to evaluate the health care sector. Long wait times, inefficiency, unhappy patients, and health care workers who are burned out can all lead to poor performance. Quality in healthcare is like another kind of elephant, with different parts that change over time and different ways to look at, measure, and evaluate performance. Even though patient experiences and opinions are very important, they are not enough to judge the quality of healthcare on their own. Make sure that everyone can afford health care and that it’s not hard to get. The US can give more money to health care and make sure prices are low enough for people from the poor to the middle class. There are always new ideas in the health care field. As spending on healthcare has gone up in recent years, many budgets are being used to remove barriers and make it easier for services to be given.
To deal with these problems, hospitals and other medical organizations spend most of their money on getting new technology. But organizations will also need to focus on more practical ways to make it easier for people to get access to advanced diagnostic and treatment procedures. In fact, technology shouldn’t be the only solution to the healthcare industry’s biggest problems, since many of them have to do with people (Hope, 2021). Some other ways to improve health care equity and quality are to invest in public health infrastructure, deal with the opioid and substance use epidemic, fight climate change and invest in environmental justice, reduce poverty and improve economic stability, improve education access and quality, increase access to affordable, stable, inclusive, healthy, climate-resilient housing, improve health care access and quality, and strengthen social connections.
