Hello J.M. My name is —. I am here to conduct an interview with you. I intend to take notes and voice record for this interview. I had communicated to your earlier regarding this interview to seek for a permission. We agreed to conduct the interview today afternoon at your home place for your safety, comfortability, and convenience as well as maintaining your privacy. I wish to assure you a complete privacy of the information you provide. I also prefer conducting the interview at your home place to avoid exposure of your information and preventing interference from other unwanted individuals during the interview. I am sure this environment will allow you to provide maximum information as per the requirement of this interview.
The questions I will be asking you in this interview will be relating to your culture and healthcare experience. After the interview, I will provide you with a copy of notes and the voice record I will obtain from you. I will also ensure that the soft copy for this documents reaches you through your email for the purpose of your reference.

What do you consider a recommended nutritional requirements to follow and your acknowledgment on your daily nutritional requirements?
Individual’s Answer
Recommended nutrition should probably contain high lean protein meat like turkey, chicken, and lean beef. One should include grains like rice, wheat, and dairy products like milk and eggs. Vegetables are also important for the nutritional requirement and a glass of water.

They include lean meat protein like that of chicken and turkey. Also, beans are major sources of protein.

Yeah. In fact, healthy nutrition is basic for healthy living. The body must be maintained properly by ensuring it is fed well and healthy. We are supposed to ensure that we led a healthy lifestyle and make it a basic part of living.

I am aware. As a nurse, I understand things to do with nutrition. My community always overlook the disease prevention issue whether its primary like sexually related diseases or secondary like hypertension and diabetes. Many people are not aware of these diseases and therefore their condition and management are not well addressed. The healthcare department has introduced free clinics, healthy community centers, and fair healthcare services to promote awareness.

Creation of awareness and provision of disease prevention education are the basic principles for prevention and management of many diseases. The society needs education on issues like how to use condoms, the importance of physical exercises and encouraged to conduct nutrition consultant for a healthy living.

What is your understanding of primary and secondary prevention methods of diseases?
Individual’s Answer
Primary prevention deals with onset prevention of diseases. It focuses on the reduction of risk for diseases. Interventions are applied before occurrence or evidence of a disease. For example, a disease agent can be prevented through vaccination.
Secondary prevention involves detecting a disease symptom in its early age. interventions are made to slow or stop the progression of the disease development. Early intervention slows or terminates development of a disease. The processes applied include disease screening to detect possible risks of a disease.

Individual’s Answer
I am a Hispania from South America. My culture beliefs in natural remedies in disease management, treatment, and CAM therapy. It is however not appropriate to judge people on their beliefs and norms concerning healing and treatment of diseases. It is always important to respect other people’s perspective and cultural beliefs on health.

What are your health beliefs and practices especially on illnesses?
Individual’s Answer
I appreciate natural remedies for disease healing. The main applied remedies include honey, lemon, and tea. Garlic and fish oil are used in the treatment of hypertension.

With reference to your culture, how do you deal with patients suffering from serious or terminal diseases?
Individual’s Answer
Serious Illnesses are treated by medicine men or women from the village. I consider this treatment as almost equal to perfect with the application of natural herbs which has greatly enhanced the societal experience on herbal medicine and natural remedies.

Are you informed about your family’s health history? Do you have an idea of diseases associated with Hispanic culture?
Individual’s Answer
Yeah. I have a vast knowledge of the relationship between my culture and health perspective as well as that of my family. my family has reported several cases of hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia on both sides of the family. these diseases can, however, be managed and prevented by ensuring proper nutrition education.

Do you relate your family’s healthcare condition with genetics or acquired condition advanced in a specific cultural group like sickle cell anemia, diabetes, hypertension, or cardiovascular diseases or any other disorder?
Individual’s Answer
I have observed that family members from both sides of the family have hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders. My culture consumes fatty, greasy, and plenty of carbs and sugary food. My family used to value quantity but not quality. I had to educate them after persuing nursing course to ensure they maintain nutrition standards. However, changing the society is hard as they have adapted the tradition.

I think I have talked a lot about my family health history throughout the discussion. The major incidence I have experienced is losing my aunt to breast cancer. Due to fear of this situation, I have been going for screening and encouraging my family to do the same.
