1. How “self confidence “ could help an emergency manager with decision making skills
2. How “integrity could help an emergency manager build trust among colleagues.
3. How “sociability” could help an emergency manager interact with other professionals, including subordinates, supervisors and interagency roles.
4. What traits do posses that would make you a effective emergency management.

Emergency Management
Leadership traits have been an area of study since the 20th Century. Many scholars discussed the ideal characteristics that make up a good leader which is a vital point of focus for successful organizations. When calamity strikes, traits such as self-confidence, integrity and sociability are necessary to achieve recovery. These three areas were studied by 20th century scholars such as Stodgill, Kirkpatrick and Locke (Northouse, 2019). Self-confidence and sociability was evaluated by Stodgill (1974) while integrity was recommended by Kirkpatrick and Locke (1991). It is fair to say that emergency managers rely on these three traits to cope with decision making, trust and interactions after an incident.
Self-confidence is the certainty within an individual that they can deliver the best results in given scenarios. To accomplish this trait, a leader must exhibit a high sense of self-esteem, belief in making a change, and self-assurance. As much as all leaders are expected to have self-confidence, not all can be emergency managers. Dealing with calamity is a field that needs risk takers to fix the situation. Hence, the emergency leader should be open minded and willing to execute their ideas (Bell, 2017). They have to be confident of their ideas since everyone looks up to them to fix the impossible. During calamities, self-doubt is not the best approach since there will be those who are against the emergency managers ideas. It is a time to execute ideas in the best way perceived.
While things may seem thick during an incident, it is always necessary for the emergency manager to maintain their integrity. With the confusion and fear taking place during such a moment, honesty ad trustworthy are traits that can seamlessly carry an organization to recovery in a safe manner (Bell, 2017). Leaders are supposed to be transparent and ensure fellow management or employees are aware of the damages, possible implications and time needed to achieve full recovery. Hiding information or sugarcoating the situation to make ones work look commendable is the worst approach to take since the results will remain evident in the aftermath. Integrity is necessary since the leader is able to gain the trust of others and use it for cooperation
Sociability is a trait that boosts integrity and self-confidence because it shows a leaders ability to work with the affected community. These social relationships are essential for any organization and not just during calamity (Northouse, 2019). Seeking out friendly interactions with fellow colleagues or the affected during an incident shows diplomacy, courtesy, friendliness, and open-mindedness. Good leaders should be able to encourage open-door policies so that the affected can reach out with ease. Such tactics aid leaders in knowing how to help the organization and to what extent. It also makes it easy to issue orders to supervisors and interagency roles since the organization has a sense of union.
In conclusion, emergency management calls for specific traits that can be used to create a cohesive front at executing viable ideas that will help an organization recover. Personally, intelligence and determination are some of the strengths I possess that would help in emergency management. Intelligence is the most crucial trait in any leader since it depends on acquired skills for problem solving and social judgement. Determination on the other hand ensures that I do not lose sight of my goals since I am constantly motivated. Possession of leadership traits are important if problem resolutions are to be achieved.
